SO! my parents has had this item for at least 25 years and have always wondered what the writing means, so... being as you guys are
AWESOME at translation, amongst other things, i'm wondering if ANYONE can translate these three characters... i'm unsure if it's actually
Chinese or Japanese though BUT my particular thoughts runs to the fact that it's the maker's signature. So, if anyone could actually tell
me what it actually says it would be much appreciated.

Have you tried using some sort of Kanji recognition software (Kanji OCR or something like that)? I know they worked for me in some situations in the past.

Are you sure of what language that is? If it is anything other than Japanese, I doubt you can find anyone to help around here. A better place to ask my be over at RHDN. That is where I've gotten some quick translations for small anime audio snippits in the past.

I think I can do this with the radical lookup feature in NJStar, both Japanese and Chinese versions. Just don't have time today. I'll come back to this and see what I can do.

My first guess, it's the name of the manufacturer or designer and was not produced specifically for export. Anyway, try to have a little humor for the Chairman Mao quip. It got a grin out of me!

I've had no luck with radical lookup features in NJStar software yet. These symbols appear unique, or it could be an obsolete or even different Asia language. My best guess so far is these markings are rather similar to those on Japanese Imari porcelain or Chinese Guangxu pieces, but I haven't isolated it yet.
