A prominent side-quest in this game is to collect stamps from NPCs. From pandas to "puzzle moles" to common townsfolk any npc might have one to add to the player's collection. There are 60 in total, and many of them are only available under certain conditions and scenes - failing to collect them then will make them permanently unavailable from that point on. While collecting stamps, for the first 50 there's a "Quiz Master" for every 10 you collect. He'll pose three questions to you. And when you collect the last 10, there's five more questions asked. So in total, there are 20 questions. The game's strat guide even mentions a postal address for someone to write and send his answers to, in order to get a nice gift from the developers! Well, we're some 23 years too late for that, but atleast we have the quiz to ponder. Some of these questions concern in-game events, others ask for historic facts. I'll put the quiz here under a spoiler tag. Let me know if my translations are off (number 17 I couldn't understand). See for fun how many of these you know the answers for. Spoiler! :

Still plodding along instead of starting over. I have missed two stamps that are lost to me. One is the night guard in Linzi. Just landed at far north cave by Great Wall. Time to Spoiler! :

Oh dummy me! I read that city name all the while as 洛陽 (Luoyang) and their merchs have nothing special to their dialogue. However while you got close in your translation it's referring to 陽翟 (Yangzhai) which is Han's capital, not Ji/Yan. The dialogue in merchants between Yangzhai and Ji seems very similar it actually makes the point either way. Thanks for the clarification According to the guidebook they were to send copies of CDs with arranged music as prize draws for sending these quiz answers to the dev team in 1995. I'm curious if any of these CDs were handed out in the end. It'd be cool to find some collectors having them, I'd certainly buy one. Between the SFC cart and box, manual, strategy guide, a game poster ad, and even one tome of Watson's english translated 'Shiji' sitting on my desk, I'm amassing some hefty collection of junk related to this game |

Thanks for the clarification Normally, we must employ numerous localization "tricks" to make these ubiquitous quiz show features work in games. I recall a traveler in Ji, the current site of Peking, musing about strange dialects assaulting his ears, but I'll mosey on over to Yangzhai, re-translate the shop there, and see if any "contradictions" I might have missed entered the plot. Most of the shops are "Hi, buy, equip, bye, later". That makes it easy.
