Keep making moves. It has to yield eventually. ;) After doing this one I was able to do the 2x2 one on the spot, and the same process applies to the 3x3 version. Unfortunately I can't come up with much to say regarding specific techniques, but once you solve one "side" (3x3 of the same color), the rest of it kinda starts to solve itself. The more of it that's completed, the more the possible moves are narrowed down.

Won't solving 1 side merely make that side unmovable?

No, all the same moves are possible no matter what the current puzzle state is, but each move you make after that will be centered around keeping that side the same before and after.

Urgh...too complex. Hope you'll make a video solving it one day, I'll just follow it.

They're both random, so it couldn't be followed move-by-move. You can post a savestate if you want, and I could take a look when I'm home...you're really sure you can't do it, though, even after solving one side?

Wow. Thanks. :)
I'll keep trying, but I'm terrible at rubik's cube type puzzles.
I've attached my snes9x save state (rename to shiki_eiyuuden.000).

Whew, sorry for the delay there. Sedation is not recommended for this puzzle!
