Can't for the life of me figure this one out, the puzzles are getting insane.

With the 3-5-7 configuration, is there any kind of pattern to ensure victory?

Thanks.

I've been away for a while. Not sure what part of the game contains what you asked about. Recca played the game fairly recently. Wish he would drop by and try to help you with some of this.

What puzzle are you referring to? If it's the marble one in that annoying dungeon with the animals who give you puzzles in order to proceed, there's a very simple solution to this. You can either attempt to painfully retry different combinations until you win or simply press "Select" to skip it altogether. After doing so, the two animals who give you this puzzle disappear without a word. However, this only works with the marble puzzle at the beginning of the maze. The other ones you'll have to solve yourself as there's no easy way to give step-by-step instructions. It's mostly trial and error until you succeed unless you already know what you're doing. The puzzles were indeed the most frustrating part of this game, followed closely by the numerous tough battles and lack of being able to make money at all easily (you'll usually have to sell the things you find). And of course trying to figure out where to go next without any good hints nor a walkthrough of any kind! Indeed, this game seems to be geared more towards seasoned veterans of RPGs.

Edit: Here's a video about how to win at a 3-5-7 configuration "Nim" style counting game:

I've also posted these two other helpful guides in the sellable item thread, but I might as well post them here as well:

It's been the subject of plenty of analyses, scripts, and elegant proofs, but I went with "the short version":

1. Go first.
2. Create one of the following patterns (remember, order of rows doesn't matter):
Spoiler! :
2-2
3-3
4-4
5-5
1-1-1
1-2-3
1-4-5
2-2-4
2-4-6
2-5-7
3-4-7
3-5-6
3. Repeat step 2.

A stamp for your book? Sorry, I don't have one.
