I was hoping to get everyone out there to weigh in on this little subject. In the game, there are signs for things like Inns, Clinics, etc. If you do not know already (I don't think these are big spoilers), the game's main character is a Japanese boy who travels around the world. The signs in the game are all Japanese for Japan, but they all appear to be English for everywhere else in the world. I have the following three choices:

1. Do NOT edit any of the signs. Leave Japanese signs and English signs as they are.
2. Change all signs to English.
3. Change all signs to reflect the language of their nations. (this is probably not going to be possible, but could be)

As it is, this game is going to require a TON of graphical work, so I see these signs as a relatively small issue at the moment, but I want to know how people feel about the three options.

If I were doing GOD, I personally would leave them as they are. Kind of an odd choice they put most of them in English yet I'd leave them alone. Had we went through with our version of Hourai High School, there is no way I would have changed the signs to English. And before anyone attacks me over that statement, I'm not saying AG was wrong how they did it, it just isn't how I would have done it. There is no right or wrong way. Again, this is my personal taste, and you should do the game how you feel it best done, Draken.

I wouldn't mind if you go for 1, seeing how 3 would be hard to do because limited space, or other issue.

If they stay in japanese I'll need to memorize which each one means. It's not a very hard thing to do, even less when lots of games use icons or symbols to represent other things and people memorize them no problem.

On the other hand, I really don't see the problem on translating signs to english.
As I said, you can memorize things like "item shop / weapon shop /inn" just by walking in and seeing what type of shop it is, and there's no problem there. But with signs that may give directions, information and such I personally find them kind of necessary to be translated or changed into something that can be understood.

I think is a far different matter compared to, I don't know, changing characters/items/places names.

Well, just to clarify my approach, there is an easy solution for that in most cases. I think of it as the tourist approach. Townies can point you in the right direction, just as they might in an actual country.

Don't worry. There are only a couple of signs in the game that are in Japanese, and if they remain in their original language, it will have zero effect on how the player goes through the story.

If that's so, then there will be no problem at all. Do whatever you think it fits more the game then!

Of course, and most probably asking is the better option, but signs often seem to have an english translation.
Although i'll admit that is a very engrish-y one usually and doesn't help...
