Well...I certainly didn't expect the task to make maps of SSMS-II to take so long. To anyone waiting for the rest of the maps, I apologize, but "Real Life" snuck up on me. Truth be told, I've been having some health issues (nothing serious, mind you), so that's sapped some of my enthusiasm and drive to finish. As if that wasn't bad enough, my main hard drive started giving signals that it was dying, so I had to replace that hard drive. Unfortunately, cloning failed every time, so I was forced to *sigh* finally upgrade to Win10, on the new, replacement hard drive (it's...not as bad an OS as I've been led to believe, actually). Thankfully, I was able to copy EVERYTHING off my old HD (using an external USB enclosure), before it completely conked out. It took me about a week before I had restored all my programs and files, so that's one week I was unable to do anything map-related. Add to this the fact that SSMS-II has a large number of maps, and it became obvious to me that this wasn't going to be a quick little project. At least it hasn't been boring lately :)

Now then, with that out of the way, let's get to the maps:

First, I want to emphasize that I'm not done yet, as there are still several maps I need to make (including some that need to be redone to reflect the darkness falling across the land, along with all the underground craters). All done now.

Next, the items hidden throughout the maps. I've been very thorough and found everything Arcadia found in his/her FAQ, along with some extra things not mentioned there. That's not to say I've found *everything*, mind you, as there might be more hidden items, but at least all known items are now shown on the maps. If anyone finds any other items not shown on the maps, please post the name of the place, along with the item name, and where you found it. Like I said, I've been pretty thorough, but I just want to let everyone know that I'm not against updating any of the maps with new info, where necessary.

Finally, some of the maps are...disturbingly large. The worst one, so far, has definitely been Crystal Castle, and that map took me the longest to finish due to the ridiculously large map size. Most of the maps are normal, just don't be surprised if you see a few huge maps.

In the past, I've uploaded each map individually, so anyone can download only the maps they want. This time, however, I've also uploaded a single .zip file containing ALL the maps, so you only have to download one .zip file, instead of downloading 68 separate maps.

Here they are (numbered, more or less, in the order in which you'll visit them):

It might take me a little while to finish the rest of the maps, but I'll be sure to post an update when that happens. Oh, and I'll probably refrain from posting any map updates until I'm done with the rest, that way I can get them done faster. All done now. Once again, if you want all the maps, you only need to get the first .zip file, which contains all 68 maps.

Feel free to post if you have any comments/questions/suggestions, or if you notice anything about the maps that's wrong. With that, I'm off to enjoy a cup of coffee and take a break :)

Edit 5-15: Added a couple of corrected v2 maps. All links (and .zip file) updated to reflect new additions. These two corrections were mainly text edits...on one, a last minute font size change messed up the text alignment, and the other edit was a minor correction regarding Wookie's Henchmen.

Edit 7-05: Following is info regarding the v2 maps, in case anyone is interested.

Edit 9-18: While gathering info for an enemy list, I revisited Foxtail Village and discovered that this map changes after darkness covers the land. New map included.

Edit 10-08: While going through Crystal Castle, I realized there's a hidden passage which wasn't shown on the map.

Spoiler! :
00-World Map: Just what could have possessed me to make not one, not two, but six different world maps? Anyone who's played the game will know what I'm talking about when I mention the 'cutoff point', but, in a nutshell (for those who might not know), the 'cutoff point' refers to that point on the world map that, upon crossing it, you will no longer be, for example, on the far East side, but on the far West side instead. This also applies to the highest North and lowest South points on the world map. Thanks to the 'wrap-around' effect, you can literally keep flying across the world map all day, passing the same cities, over and over. Sorry about the long explanation, but if you don't understand what I mean by 'cutoff point', you'll be totally lost for this next part. So, the initial World Map was great, perfect, even, so why did I change it? After I made the "Dark" version of the world map, I realized something: the cutoff point on the "Dark" map shifted about 15-16 pixels, which, in and of itself, is not that big a deal. What is a big deal, however, is that new islands popped up on the "Dark" map, islands which were not there before, and, had I left the maps the same, the cutoff point would have effectively split some of the islands (on the far east of the map) RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE, with half the islands on the far east and the other half on the far west. In-game, that is exactly how it is, so I *should* have left the maps like that, but it looked terrible, so that's when I decided to make the v3 maps, with the cutoff point shifted so it looks 'proper'. The v2 is the original map, in case anyone preferred that one. While working on the different versions, it struck me that somebody *might* eventually want to use these world maps for something else, so I decided to release "Clean" versions as well (that is, without any text, aside from the map name).

03 - Grangram Town. Added a ring to clearly indicate where the "Crimson Ruby" is located.

06 - Hell Valley Mine. The previous map had an interesting effect: two elevators were in two different locations...AT THE SAME TIME! Eat your heart out, Schrodinger's cat! We've collapsed all quantum possibilities into the current version, so all elevators should behave henceforth.

09 - Tontace Village. This one is interesting: I'm not sure how it happened, but the NPC at the town entrance ended up having four eyes. Yeah, four eyes. The people responsible for that have been sacked, so rest assured it won't happen again. Anyway, the v2 finds that NPC now enjoying life immensely, as he's no longer disfigured.

11 - Nycalo Mountain. Clarification on how to obtain Andre as a helper.

12 - Blauer Forest. Clarification indicating you must have Andre as a helper in order to enter forest.

14 - The Angular. Updated all arrows to a nicer version, plus added the Boss, along with his name. Technically, he wasn't really missing from the map, it's just that he doesn't appear until AFTER you've found the princess, in the cut scene. I decided to add him anyway, as you'll have to fight him before you leave.

15 - Shalam Town. Just added some missing arrows.

16 - Jodan's Circus. Minor clarification for Wookie's Henchman. Added requirement for 2nd incursion into Jodan's Balloon, and two more arrows added for clarification.

24 - Crystal Castle. Close to the entrance, there's a room with two chests on the left side of the stairs. The chest contents were properly marked, but not how to access this area (it turns out there's a hidden passage BEHIND the stairs). But...wait! How could I have reached the chests to open them and show the chest contents on the map, WITHOUT going through the hidden passage? In order to speed up this map project, I played with the "Walk Through Walls" cheat on, which was a great time-saver. When I initially started mapping Crystal Castle, the map was so large that I decided to map the hidden passages at the end, so I would just walk through walls, open the chests, jot down the contents, and continue the game. When I finally was close to finishing the map, there was one item listed on Arcadia's FAQ that I could NOT for the life of me find in Crystal Castle. It took me a few hours of searching Crystal Castle, but I did eventually find the item in question and mapped it as well. Unfortunately, by the time I found said item, I was totally burned out on Crystal Castle and I completely forgot to add the hidden passage behind the stairs. It just...slipped through the cracks. Sorry about that, though it IS funny that a map shows treasures, but not how to reach them. Anyway, it's properly shown now.

26 - Chimoy Town. Spelling correction.

27 - Village of Faith. Added a note indicating an item you can get from Jalama if you speak with her after darkness covers the land.

31 - Port Marinela. Correction, and added information regarding obtaining the key item "Letter to Tem" if you refused that NPC's request back at Longbridge (you later find him at the Inn in Chimoy Town, pretty much on his deathbed).

33 - Fice Village. Added a note indicating an item you can get if you return after darkness covers the land.

36 - Rumiella's Master's Home. Clarified that Rumiella MUST be in your party if she is to learn the skill.

38 - Time Temples. A last minute font size change caused misalignment in some text. Corrected.

41 - Holy Land Temple. Clarification for the "Wookie's Henchmen" requirement.

42 - Dark Zone. One of the rings had inadvertently shifted, so its position has been corrected to its rightful place. Also, box added around text.

44 - Longbridge (Dark). Correction regarding the NPC holding "Tem's Letter".

45 - Shalam Town (Dark). Reduced font size for one block of text covering an NPC.

47 - Galahar Town (Dark). Correction: there's only one Inn in Galahar now, not two.

53 - Master's House Underground Entrance (Dark). Clarification regarding the Injured Bird and obtaining the "Lash Sword" skill.

55 - Cave 2 [World Map] & Chasm 1 & 2. Added a text box around a block of text.

58 - Foxtail Village [Dark]. When you visit Foxtail Village, you must traverse a cave with water. Well, after darkness covers the land, said water is now gone, revealing a stairway down. Also, all cats have now disappeared from Foxtail Village (they are still there, but in human form). This map has been updated to reflect this. Because of the addition of this map, the maps which were previously numbered 58-60 have now been renamed to 59-61.

59 - Cave to Dark's Fortress. Renamed from #58 to #59 (see reason above).

60 - Dark's Fortress First Area. Renamed from #59 to #60. Correction. Passing Section 2 of this area will render you unable to return to the overworld. While at the start of Section 2, you can still return to the Teleport Ship, where you can use the terminal to warp to different cities. Once you've reached a high enough point in Section 2, you can no longer 'call' the lifts, so you are stuck, unable to return to the lower levels.

61 - Dark's Fortress Final Area. Renamed from #60 to #61. Correction. Incorrectly stated that engaging Beauty was the point of no return. Corrected.

Nice work. There will no doubt be players that find this very handy.

Thanks, taskforce! Indeed, some of the areas are laid out in such a way that they're difficult to navigate, like Kutomina Palace. Using Arcadia's FAQ, I was able to get everything from Kutomina Palace, but it was a bit of a pain having to stop to reference the FAQ, again and again, as Kutomina Palace isn't very intuitively laid out. Now that it's mapped, players can take one look and realize what's going on, so hopefully it's of use to others.

Well, back to SSMS-II for me!

Mind if I host the map pack on the download and project page and maybe post the maps to the project page if I can figure a useful way to do so, with proper credit of course?

The same thing happened to me back in February as well. My Windows 7 laptop's hard drive failed and I had to buy a cheaper refurbished Windows 10 desktop model to replace it. Luckily, I was able to copy my files onto an external USB flash drive before it failed completely. Afterwards, like you, I also had to spend about a week or so reinstalling my programs and copying my files onto the "new" computer. Along with getting rid of various bloatware and turning off many features, settings and options in quite a few different menus under control panel (Windows 10 seems hell-bent to spy on its users if you don't turn these off). Besides all of that, it's not that bad of an OS, but I still prefer Windows XP and 7 a bit more (that might just be mostly because of nostalgia though).

Anyway, good work on those maps so far. This game is a bit harder than the first one, so I'm sure that many players will find these useful, as Taskforce said.

I don't mind at all, taskforce, and you don't have to worry about giving me credit. Actually, it would probably be better to have the map pack here as well, just in case anything ever happens to Mediafire (I do keep backups of all my files, and I've yet to lose important files, but you never know what surprises the future holds  ). Feel free to use them in any way you see fit.

@Recca: Ouch, I feel your pain. Maybe I've been lucky all these years, but I've never had a hard drive just fail on me. Granted, I keep tabs on how old my drives are and I replace them, oh, around the four year mark, and I've never had problems. It's just this drive that suddenly started clicking, then it got worse and it would actually take up to 30 minutes just to boot up! Oh, and that hard drive? It wasn't even two years old. Just goes to show that there are no guarantees with hard drives, I guess. For the longest time I've heard that SSD's are really fast, so I decided to *finally* get an SSD instead of a mechanical HD. Let me tell you, the difference in speed is incredible: it literally boots into Windows in 24 seconds, whereas my old mechanical HD would take around 5 minutes to boot into Windows. Yeah, I'm a little late to the SSD party, but I've never been an early adopter when it comes to technology. I'm new to working with SSD's, so no idea how well it'll hold up over time. Time will tell, I guess.

Speaking of Windows 10, yeah, the first couple of days I had to disable several annoying "features" in the OS, but now it's behaving well. Honestly, though? There'll always be a soft spot in my heart for Windows 7 :) Maybe it's because I used Win 7 for so long and, in my experience, it worked, and it worked very well, or maybe, like you said, it's because of nostalgia...unfortunately, updating to a newer OS is something that most people will eventually have to do, it's just a matter of time. It's nice when it's a voluntary decision (I recall reading about some Intel CPU's/motherboards a while back that would NOT let you install Windows 7 on them...there was a work-around, but people shouldn't have to resort to hacky work-arounds just to install an OS). Anyway, Win10 is stable and behaving nicely so far, so I can't really complain. Hopefully, it stays like that for a long time :)

Oh, and thanks for your kind words regarding the maps. As long as it helps anyone else in the game, I consider it time well spent.

I've had my Win 7 laptop for about eight years before the hard drive finally died. It was working fine one day, then the next it clicked four or five times, froze, then just died when I tried to restart it. Before that, I had an XP desktop computer that lasted for about ten years before the hard drive finally stopped working as well. Although, at one point I remember changing the entire motherboard when it wouldn't turn on anymore (before the hard drive failed). It was actually cheaper to buy a new one online than to pay what the local computer repair guys were asking for. Most computers are expected to last between five to eight years of light use which isn't bad. Although, heavily used ones seem to range between three to four years, according to the information online.

I just hope that this refurbished Win 10 desktop that I bought this year lasts me for at least a few years because I doubt that I could afford to get a new one currently. At least it seems to be working well thus far, so I'm not complaining. Well, the CD/DVD drive was busted, but I did buy an external USB one. But I suppose that you can expect these kinds of things when you opt to buy the cheapest model available. SSD drives certainly are better than their HDD counter parts, but are more expensive and have less memory/storage space available usually. Though, I would certainly like to get one of those myself someday.

Actually, hard drives tend to be the most volatile thing in a PC. Most PC's can last well over 8 years if taken care of properly. My PC I'm using right now the motherboard is from 2013. I did replace the CPU with a newer model FX 1 or 2 years ago, but the motherboard is still chugging along fine and that CPU was working fine. That all being said. I have hard drives in this PC with well over 11 years of powered on uptime (yes, you read that right, 11 years.) Both IDE and SATA (yeah I actually still have IDE drives in this PC.) One is a Seagate IDE 300GB drive I bought new. Hard drives can be quite robust, just keep your important stuff backed up regularly when they do eventually crap out. And SSD do have one major drawback. They will only write so many times before the memory will no longer write. Now that is a lot of writes but it will eventually happen if not replaced in due time. Most users can use an SSD (even as a boot drive with all windows stuff left on including page files and such) for well over 5 years. A lot of times 10+. A heavy user that rotates files constantly will be less. I'd plan to replace those every 3 years max.

Thanks for the tips and info regarding SSD's, taskforce! Wow, 11+ years on a hard drive? Those drives are real troopers! Yeah, I agree, hard drives are the weak link of any computer. I mean, it's not IF the HD will eventually die, it's WHEN. I suppose there's no substitute for keeping current backups. I'll admit I need to work on that, as I only have backups of my most critical files.

What I'll probably end up doing is just fall back on my "4 year" plan. After four years of use, I retire that drive into an external HD (USB). My external drives see *very* little use, and I have external hard drives that are over 10 years old and are still working perfectly. Since this is my first SSD, I'll be keeping my eye on it to see how it behaves as time goes by. You know what? All this talk about backups has really got me thinking about it. I think I'll just order another HD, just so I can keep an image of my current drive. That way, should disaster strike, I can recover much more quickly. I guess it's better to have a current backup and not need it, than to need a backup and not have it. Live and learn, I always say :)

I wouldn't worry too much. My SSD has been powered on for over 4 years and still has 90% health left and I do a lot of writes. However my drive is an MLC drive instead of TLC like most drives made today and they tend to last longer. There are tools to monitor the health of the memory in an SSD. (That doesn't account for the SSD failing otherwise but you can keep an eye on remaining memory life.) crystaldiskinfo will tell you the remaining life for example. In the future, if you can find an MLC drive I definitely recommend it over TLC even with a cache. Problem is, they're now expensive to find unlike a few years ago when you could get MLC for just a few dollars more.
