What does everyone here think of people just selling custom SNES boxes that have pictures using your translation patches on them?

Seriously, everyone has always said we live in a gray area. If we start making a bunch of noise about this, does anyone perceive the possibility that a mob of money-grubbing lawyers might try to change the colors of the zones in which we presume to operate?

I wonder if they remove some of those intro screens with most patches that shows who contributes to the English translation.

You know, if they sold this stuff for cost (making minimal to no money), I have no problem with any of it personally. It is the fact that most of them actually try to profit from it that I take issue with.

Absolutely. That's why repros in particular bother me so much. I don't like how we become associated with illegal bootlegging unwillingly. We try to do the right thing in as much as possible considering what we're doing. The idea that someone just out to make a buck threatens to undermine our good intentions rubs me the wrong way.



Personally I wouldn't be against this depending on the context. If they were being made specifically to accompany bootlegs, or to be passed off as official releases then I'd definitely be against. If they were just to have something cute on your shelf it seems like a fairly innocent thing. I don't have a problem with that.



It would be better, but I still don't like how it mixes our work and the original rom regardless of whether money is transacted. Kind of like prepatched roms.
