Is Record of the Lodoss War close to beta testing too?

It's past beta actually, we'll release it shortly. The beta period was not bumpy but it was lengthy due to personal issues affecting me for a time. Keep your eyes peeled haha.

Knowing you a little bit, ultpaladin, Lodoss will entertain you, although someone with control of the insertion program post-W/B returned a page or two in the opening narrative to (Ugh!) passive voice. (Ooops, an automatic "C" in high school journalism class and a possible failing mark in beginning college Journalism 203 at my old Alma Mater!)

For you and all of the SSMS-I testers, I found a discrepancy in my beddie-bye Win8 telephone game #5 tonight, and I'm up in the loft now making some changes.

We have two Flare Knives in your copies of the game. One is a usable item that will put a fairly devastating hurt on baddies who don't feed on fire (sold in Auren). It's handy for the healers who don't need to heal that round. The other is a weapon with a strike power rating of Attack +38, equitable only by Killa.

So, I am making all (or nearly all) of the Killa weapons "Dirks".

Scorpion Dirk
Storm Dirk
Flare Dirk
Quick Dirk
Killer Dirk
Ninja Dirk
Mimicry Dirk
Ancient Dirk
Shadow Dancer (Possibly a weapon for Killa)

In your current games, some are daggers, the Ninja weapon is a sword, and Mimicry is a knife, I believe. Everyone's next revision will reflect these changes.

In other news, I just got Poyon in my telephone game. Here is a partial list of techniques that Poyon can learn. Every time I play through with Poyon, he surprises me and learns something new.

I have added the following to my heavily edited SSMS-I FAQ by Arcadia. None of you have this or my most recent additions, but if you play Poyon, let the monsters who use these techniques hit Poyon over and over until he learns them! You won't know if he learned it until the battle is over.

Poyon's spells:

Name: MP: Effect: Range Level gained:
----- --- ------- ------ -------
Aqua Wheel....8.......Water attack.............All......n/a
Spike.........8.......All-or-nothing attack....Single...n/a

(These are the ones Arcadia found.)

(Wildbill's Poyon learned the following in varous game plays:)

Snap..........8.......Canine nip...............Single...n/a
Machinegun....8.......3X Attack................All......n/a
Aqua Wheel....8.......Whirlpool................All......n/a
Bubble Bomb...8.......Water Attack.............All......n/a
Chomp.........8.......Vicious bite.............Single...n/a
Fire Lizard...8.......Fire Attack..............All......n/a
Change........30......Party Changes Form.......All......n/a
Acid Mist.....20......Recurring Attack.........All......n/a
Magic Light...8.......Bright beam..............All......n/a
Flatulence....8.......Fartin' around...........All......n/a

Some of these learned attacks are very powerful.
They make Poyon a formidible physical fighter, rivaling Garou!

I'll have to use Poyon a little more. I only have Snap and Magic Light.

Okay, more information for testers. Remember, everything I write is a spoiler.

The Auran Village mess - I have straightened out more of it. I just discovered something that was right in front of me all the time - and fixed it.

Auran is a very dynamic place considering that nothing happens there as a pass-through point on the way to Dogler's fortress. But if you keep
re-visiting Auran after clearing major events up until before and after your entry into Dorado City (but before you fight Fat Badger) you'll find
Auran a hotbed of activity.

I can't seem to establish a pattern, but sometimes you'll find all men; other times mostly women. For the most part, the dialogue changes according to
which gender is occupying the town and can be affected even by who's in your party at the time. Basically, the village is undergoing the
rebuilding process, and the newly built Item Shop sells those very useful Flare Knives I mentioned earlier.

Here is what I just encountered upon one of the re-visits to Auran:

The town was filled with women. They all greeted me warmly.
The man standing by the house where you can sleep asked me to re-name the town.
I refused to name it, so he offered suggestions. This is the part I fixed.

The names in the dialogue did not match the names in the variable (misc) file.
Now they do, and I will send out the game with these fixes.
Okay, as soon as I picked a name, all of the women changed into men - boom!
The guy who asked me to pick a name said it was disorganized with nothing but men.
Previously, he said all the women around town made him smile (yeah, me, too!!)

Now, whether you name the town on the naming menu or pick a name the man
suggests, the name Auran stays put on signs, maps, warp spells, everthing.
This may be normal, as is the randomness of what goes down in Auran.

And, when you pick a name in My Town, that doesn't show up in the game, either.

We'll keep investigating this.

Meanwhile, Garrett has brought up the possibility of switching fighters on scene.
I don't know how to input the information to make that happen...

But Bongo` sent the following memory locations:

$7E167A - $7E167D

He says changes in those slots will determine who is in the party without
having to visit the Heroes Guild and come all the way back to the spot
where the three current companions all have something unique to say.

This happens a multitude of times in the game - everyone gathering around
to say a piece about something going on at the time.

Every time I play through the game with slightly different party members, I
see strings in the game I've never seen before, frequently needing reformatting.

I have been to the town a few times. The first time back after the original visit featured a town full of just men, the other visits have a majority of men but one or two women I believe. I remember a woman NPC complaining about the gender ratio in town. Didn't know about the flare knife so I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I know I received one previously, but it may be one that you were planning to rename to a dirk.

I want to play this game. I need something new to play. The viewpoint used for the battle system is my favorite type. I use one like it in my own little indie-project: http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt27 ... 9a78df.png. D-D always seem to find the goodest games. If it weren't for the inspiration granted me by Just Breed, I never would have tried making a fake NES game.

Anybody want to hook me up with the beta? I can be trusted--trusted enough not to leak the Penny Arcade 4 beta, at least (I did not actually play-test it, I'm just friends with the developers). If not, that's okay, I just figured the there was no harm in asking.

While you're waiting for this game maybe you could try the NES prequel to it. Hopefully you won't have too long to wait for the SNES game.
