We have produced a V0.99 alpha. I have accomplished my primary goals in regard to my tasks in this project. I have finished writing several drafts of the story, refined most of the menu data and miscellaneous files, and beaten the game in English.

In sum, I have enjoyed playing this RPG immensely. Although some of the menus and supporting features remain buggy, these are not essential to playing and completing this game. Maybe if I have time, I will post an update with some graphics on the news page. Right now, I am fixing myself an ice-cold gin and tonic. Then, I'm going fishing!

I wish to thank everyone who helped me reach this stage, especially Filler who translated the dumped files and Bongo` who built the insertion program. Kudos also go out to Taskforce who provided input on formatting refinements, Eien who did a critical spot translation of the stowaway scene, Draken who has extended plenty of moral support, and Red Soul who always inspires me with his indomitable spirit of fun and an ever-cheerful outlook.

Now, hobby-wise, I will shift attention to fixing my crashes in Aretha-II's insertion system and working toward a similar status in that game.

The Aretha-I evolution went fairly smoothly for me. Aretha-I's script is not gargantuan. I probably spent only 500 to 600 hours getting to where I am. Aretha-I is not an extremely long game either. I imagine someone could rush through it in 20 or 30 hours. Maybe it would require longer - hard to say... I believe the battle engine could have been designed a bit more elegantly in some key late-game skirmishes with certain foes. But the ending sequence and final battle is a slam-bang success in my book - as challenging as any I've encountered. And the story of Ariel's destiny (the heroine) is captivating! As anticipated, Aretha-I's ending sets the stage precisely for the beginning of Aretha-II.

Here is the block structure I have been refining for several months:

YAY! Nice work, WB! I may need a new list of bugs for this game and part 2, if you don't mind.
Things have been crazy around here lately. I will explain in e-mail. Anyway, send along when you care, sir!

that's great news guys. I'm really looking forward to this one, i like the graphics and those screenshots are beautiful. I don't know why, but I've always liked games with sequels that pertain to the previous game. Maybe it extends the development of characters you've grown to love and puts them in a different story/ new locations and stuff. So of course I'm looking forward to Aretha2 as well... ah lets face it I look forward to everything you all do here. thank a ton!! :D

I will look forward to your communication.

The bugs in One are just a few right now as compared to trickier games in the past, a few weird displays of Monsters casting spells with the names of monsters showing up instead of spell names. And the Monster Guide is broken.

My problems in Two, I was going to try to piecemeal blocks back one at a time from scratch until I found the "broken" one(s). It would likely be much, much faster if you just examined my whole structure and isolated the break point(s). If I could get back to work on Two right away, I'd have it done by end of August. I have a window of time to work on games before I resume house-building in the fall.

Then, SSMS-II - the broken clock menu at the very beginning of the game likely needs assembly work. With that working, I can go forward with the translation and story refinement. I need a break from the Arethas at times. The story can become so emotionally tense, I need to walk away and decompress for a few hours (or translate a few more strings in SSMS-II for "relaxation" and practice).

Heh, gotta make hay while the sun shines! (Or work while the storms chase the fish away!)
