So, I'm ready for testing to begin on the original Oni. Overall I found it to be a mediocre game and the story was a little on the sparse side in addition to being a fuzzy/sloppy in parts.

It can't be that bad for such an early Game Boy game, can it? :D

(says the guy who remembers he's still sitting on an unfinished translation of an equally old GB RPG)

I dunno one of my testers reported "screen tearing", but I had to tell them it did that originally. It's like this rough vertical line appears on the appears on the screen as the game scrolls while you move.

It's hard to tell what they were thinking with the script too. Some of the text doesn't make sense in the context of the story and it's not the translator's fault.

There's also a few noticeable original bugs like a key item not leaving your inventory after using it.

Ugh, I can't get into the GB. I guess I would have to learn a new processor just to do
any major hacks on the system anyway. Love the S/Nes. :)

Come to think of it, would early Game Boy RPGs be some of the first handheld RPGs ever?
I know there were handhelds before Game Boy, but I think they were all the Game & Watch (or Tiger, I'm more familiar with :P ) type that can only light pre-existing graphics. Was the GB the first with an actual video processor? (I know it's close between GB and Lynx, though I don't think Lynx had any RPGs :D )

I actually enjoy hacking the GB. It took me a bit to learn Z80, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.

The GB has some pretty good documentation and has a great debugger in BGB. Plus if I ever want to hack the GBC, it's basically the same system as the GB, but with color added.

As for that Oni game, it's not that bad of a game. I kinda enjoyed it, flaws in all.

The Legend of Double Moon, some would call it one of the best RPG's on the NES. I personally would've loved it 10+ years ago when I was into old school grindy RPGs, but these days I don't have the patience. Still it is a good game.

You will have to.
Sooner or later you(DD) and AGTP will finish all the japanesse games for SNES, so what's next?
You are the genius anyway, you'll swallow that GB processor with one bite.
