I think too many genres would make this game too hard but I guess that could be overcome by giving more clues if people don't initially get it. I think I can already tell that I'm going to stink at this game since there must be tons of PS1 or PS2 RPGs that I haven't played.

Can we get clues about the system or publisher or year?

Judging from the graphics, I'm going to guess Rudra no Hihou. It looks like that mermaid town that comes crashing down to the planet's surface after Sion defeats the evil giant Surt. Or could it be that reptile village...? I'm guessing without looking at the game.
