I'm collecting signatures on behalf of Safe & Healthy Ohio (Ohio Organizing Collaborative) to get a proposed state constitutitonal amendment on the ballot that if passed, would all but end the drug war here. Need 150k signatures from registered voters to get it on the ballot.

What this initiative will do (for Ohio):
- Currently, possession of any drug other than pot is a felony even at low levels of possession. Low levels of possession of any drug will be reclassed as a misdemeanor even for repeat offenses. People already sentenced and serving time under this law will be re-sentenced, likely meaning freedom (expected freedom for 10,000 people).
- Minor, technical violations of probation can get you sent to prison. This amendment will make it so that such a violation might get you a jail stint, but not prison.
- Money saved by effectively reducing the state's prison population by 25% (those 10,000 people) will be reinvested in mental health services.
- this amendment does not change the law regarding trafficking of narcotics, which remains a felony.

The state legislature is bought off by the prison industrial complex and voters are powerless to resist it because of gerrymandering. 73% of the people incarcerated in South West Ohio are black, where only 21% of the population is black. It's slavery reborn. The only solution to the mess is a popular revolt, which is what this amendment represents.

I wish you luck with this, tcaud, as I understand this ridiculous war. I don't live in Ohio, nor am I a citizen or registered to vote.
I am sorry, I wish I could have been of help. Keep up the fight!

Edit:
Sad but true: law enforcement needs "bad guys", drugs, etc to stay relevant. It's more a business than anything else.
You take away prisoners, you no longer have $0.40 labor or free, and you have less prisons. Politicians love
Geo Group, etc.

I hope this didn't just become a political post. Let's end it here in case it did. Keep it relevant to the original minus politics. Thank you.

Yes. This is thin ice in that regard, but I think it's benign to say that I also support your efforts, though I'm not a resident of Ohio. In Vermont we recently decriminalized the possession of up to 1 ounce, and the cultivation of up to two marijuana plants. https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/sto ... 045478001/ This effort originated from our state legislature, a first as I understand it.

You'd probably be better served by making your post on Facebook, where fellow Ohioans will see it and be able to support your efforts.

The Devil takes notes from Lina Inverse? That sounds about right.
