I post this here because if this law passes, even translation groups could be effected and censored in the US. So, you guys might want to consider that and give this website a visit and then give congress your opinion about this law passing.

Hope you guys manage to avoid that death trap.... From censorship to oppression isn't really that big a step

I'm not a U.S citizen but the way I see it they are just trying to exert even more direct control over what people do,
now even in virtual spaces, and regardless of motivation.
Its not a good sign at all, and a big step backward if it comes to pass;
I'm sure the forefathers of a country that values the exercise of freedom above all else wouldn't be happy about it...

Brazil suffered with a dictatorship period that ran in excess of 20 years, killed many and tortured just as many.
The first step of any dictatorship is information control and overruling of individual freedom, and
like it or not, the internet is, and should be a free territory of expression - the best and worst of people
shows also online - its just the nature of things.

I'm not against censorship and filtering where it should be applied - minors shouldn't have acess to
questionable content and such, I agree, but parents should be conscious enough of their own duties
and take matters into their own hands, instead of letting the government do it for them, and its
the same for all the rest. People's natures won't change because of some government's say-so,
pirates will continue to pirate, hobbysts will still try to exercise their hobbies.

It looks as if whoever came up with this stupid law is indiscriminately shooting everywhere
and we know what happens when someone comes in guns blazing... innocents will get caught
in the cross fire.

Sorry for the long post, its just this whole thing is so ridiculous, I had to voice out my thoughts;
it just angers me how inane and hypocrytical such an idea is.

Good news folks.
SOPA and PIPA were shot down.
Yes, you heard me right, the bills will not pass.
After an overwhelming tide turn both in the online
world and out of it, we'll be able to draw a breath
of relief about this thing.

Now I realize I'm no american citizen, but heh,
You guys know how I feel about freedom, as
it is such a fundamental thing. I went ahead and,
like many, signed the online petition a few weeks earlier.

Heh, if only I could have attended the live protests;
I had one hell of a speech ready.
The big names out there may yet again want to
cast their shadows on people's freedoms,
but I'll join the fray yet again when it happens,
hell, I'll even create a twitter and facebook
just to rally people forward.

We won, everyone. We won.
I'll add an excerpt of the email I
received concerning this, if
any of you is interested.

Well, that's certainly nice to know! Seriously though, I really wish that these plans to control/censor the internet comes to an end. It would be terrible if our hobby were to come to an end too because of something like this (besides, all of the games we translate are old, no longer supported and were never released in English in the first place). In all honesty, I firmly believe that the internet (and the privacy act) is one of our basic freedoms, regardless of what country we may live in. And like you said Red Soul, it's not that big of a jump from censorship to dictatorship. The only time that the government should take action is if some site is a threat to the nation or the like, but aside from that, we're the ones that should execerise caution (like in the example you gave above in your previous post).

Guess I'll have to retrace my previous statement.
Upon surfing the web for news, I found that
the government will try to bring SOPA and PIPA
back into the spotlight next month, plus
a congressman invented something called
the OPEN act...

Sounds really cute on paper,
they even tried to put a nice
acronym to divert the attention
but it sounds just as bad as SOPA
and PIPA to me... nothing more
than information control fueled
by the movie industry's rich
lobbysts...
