Vista is a proverbial computational nightmare indeed.
The killer is that Compaq built this P.O.S(hinola) laptop from the chassis up to be supported by Vista only and will not support XP drivers for that model at its web site. Gates was gonna force that lemon Vista OS down our gullets no matter what, at the time. I have experimented extensively with XP, but certain proprietary aspects regarding this Compaq make it unworkable attempting to "downgrade" OS's. I know I could bump it up to Win7 for about $75 bucks, but by the time I spruce it up a bit more (larger HDD and more RAM), I might as well grab the newer and faster Toshiba for my son.

Whatever you do with that laptop, (assuming it will continue to be used by someone) please do yourself a favor and upgrade it to Windows 7. It is worth all the trouble. Vista was a disaster that never should have been released. Although, Windows 7 was as much a travesty in the fact it was a bug fixed Vista that they charged full price for all over again.

Here is the best bargain I've seen in a while, with free shipping that has DVD brrning at this price.
The only drawback is it's not a Core Duo or better Intel, or a loaded Athlon.

These won't last long.

And that wasn't bad Bill, but this was a better deal.

Urp, the Athlon and extra gig of ram. I might have had trouble giving that one up to Jimmy! You know it's gonna bench out higher than the roughly same speed Pentium, but no free shipping at Tiger.

Yep on Win7, I heard all MS did was strip Vista down to the kernel and not load up all the silly, unwanted add-ons again. Have you seen a super-duper deal on Win7 or Win7 upgrade anywhere, sorta like the one you found on Vista Ultimate a couple years back?
