Hoping to make your life's design a bit more dynamic!

Although I know we still have enough projects on our plates for now, I just thought about leaving a list here of the top games which in my opinion deserve being translated. This list like the others here, could be useful when deciding what future projects to take on. Hopefully, I won't leave any out by mistake. I didn't add any descriptions as gamefaqs already has well written ones for them on their site.

Note: Non of these games are currently being worked on by anyone as far as I know. Well, here we go:

Also, is anyone still working on the Albert Odyssey 1 and 2 translation? I haven't heard anything about it since we dropped these projects.

10 - Needs a "grunt" to locate all text and note the offsets. No real way to dump the text
usings regular practices. BTW, the "grunt" would get so tired of this task that they would qit.


11 - Bah! I tried this too. Can be done but not my liking. The decompressed text is stored
in a crazy format.


14 - No one seems to like this game. I did. But hated the Auto battle feature.
Text storage is similar to Princess Minerva. Crazy and a headache.


22 - Needs a translator, but not sure I'm interested in finishing the game. Not only
that, I manage to delete the folder for this game that had A LOT of work completed
for this game. Soo much work that I am now pissed that I deleted it.


23 - Stupid scripting engine... OK game I guess.

Bongo` can speak for himself but I believe SNES is the only platform he intends to work on. With that in mind I'd love to work on some games with shorter scripts like action games, etc. I think they are a good complement to long RPGs since the pace of the project is completely different. It's the kind of thing that can keep the momentum going while longer projects are being worked on, and they can be fun in their own right.

I know what you mean. Releasing some small translations for fighting games and the like could help keep the site more active and "alive" looking for the people who occasionally drop by to check on what's new. And most of these non RPG games usually have a very small script. I can tell you right now that games such as Battle Master and Sengoku Denshou hardly have any text to translate in them aside from the intros and endings. Whereas the Japanese versions of Return of Double Dragon and F-Zero are completely in English!

By the way, I wonder if Japanese gamers sometimes get annoyed by how much English text some of these games contain? Especially in the menus and such. For example, Battle Master has the entire menu, character names and options in English, only the opening and ending character cut-scenes are in Japanese. And to think that most English speakers who see even a little Japanese text in translated games get angry. Imagine how the Japanese feel when they're own native games are half in English. How ironic that must be for them...

I wouldn't mind working on non RPGs. I like Action games just as much. I thought most people
playing these translations were mainly into the RPG genre. If some one brought me an action
game to help on I think I would do it.

As for system preference, the S/Nes is what I have worked on for ages. I'm sure I could
work on other platforms but I'm not too sure I'm long for this stuff much longer. La Wares was
to be my last project ( yeah, I know I never said anything ) but my friend HAD TO REMIND ME
OF A GAME HE ASKED ME TO DO A FEW YEARS AGO!!!!!!!! So I am working on the one and
even have a translator ( hopefully ) working on the script. I never mentioned it to any
of the group members because everyone seems to want to retire. I'm sure they would like
the game.

Edit: Oh, and on the subject of retirement... I believe that as long as you keep showing off these flashy new games you're working on, I don't think any of us will be leaving any time soon.

Lol, the game is indeed cool. I think of G.O.D a bit when I see this game. So far it's a straight
forward turn-base RPG. Not much to say about the story though. japanese am not my best
language. When I say retire, it could be a total leave retirement or just help out a bit type.
Like Eien, who I owe a ton to, she has a few things possibly in the works that I could possibly
help her out on. Not sure if that is the plan, though.

As for this game though, I have gotten quite a bit done over time. The text system uses an 11-bit
encryption that has been solved and the graphics are simple enough with it's compression.

Wha-? Never say never man. Call it a break. If you need one, you certainly deserve it.

As for myself, I never intended to do this forever but at some point I realized I don't think I'll ever "stop". I do take breaks, a year or more at a time sometimes, but I think I'll always come back to translating game scripts when I have the time and motivation. I hope I'm still doing this 20 and 30 years from now when I'm older and greyer.

Do you know any French Recca? Surging Aura was translated to French and I could have sword you said you lived in Canada. Of course I guess you would likely have to be in Quebec if you were fluent in French.

@#$%, I've been translating games for almost 10 years now and it does get old after a while especially when I'm handling most aspects of my projects aside from translating. I say I'm gonna retire, but I can't bring myself to leave the hobby. Unfortunately, I'm probably hooked for life it seems. Every once and a while I do take long breaks though and won't touch any of my projects for months.
