Burning Heroes is caught up while Ritchie continues with block translations. That means I don't have much for Recca to do at the moment. What would be the chances of getting the two dumps we need for Lodoss (the Japanese and the patched English version)? If Recca has time, maybe he might want to lay them side by side and start assessing what parts we need to translate in order to finish the game. Recca either did or coordinated with LostTemplar on the translation of most of the misc files in BH, so maybe if that's what's needed mostly in Lodoss, we can start getting things organized a bit.

I'm willing to collaborate with that as well as needed, until BH picks up again, or any other assignment that might fit me for that matter.

I was waiting on some thing for DM but I can't remember what it was. Not sure I have all the translated files. I must look through that stuff again just to be sure... :(

I have the folder created already. It's a matter of reverse engineering the code for possible compression added, etc... And figuring out the game's system for starters.

All I remember about this game is that it looked like someone tried to program a file system into the game.
(which isn't completely out of the question. I think this started out as a serious of numerous PC-98 games (at least 3, maybe it was more like 5 or 6). So... maybe there were so used to a file structure? (although I don't know about Sega CD or PCE-CD, or how this game even relates to those versions).)

Yes, that seemed very strange to me to see the game using a file system. Alpha-Numeric
tags for Font files, compressed blocks, etc... Weird how they got it to work on the Snes.

Thanks for bring up this game Wildbill, the sentiment is very much appreciated! This is one of my favorite games of all time, as I'm also a fan of the anime series (too bad it's so short though). The main story has been translated in that partial patch released by LNF a lot time ago. So all that's left is the NPC dialogue and misc text (items, spells, etc.). I could work on the misc files like I did with BH, but I don't think that I'm good enough yet to take on the NPC text...

The style in which the main script was translated contains Japanese honorifics. I was thinking, should we keep it as is or translate them in English? As in having "Lord Beld" instead of "Beld-sama"? I personally wouldn't mind either way, both ways are fine in my opinion.

This sure is an interesting and great game. The characters and story are very nice. The graphics and music is also superb. Record of Lodoss War along with Burning Heroes are two of the best games on the Snes in my honest opinion.

Well, just speaking from what I'd like to see. I'd prefer the Lord Bald over the honorifics. The reason for this is the feel of this series always felt more western to me than Japanese. And considering this happens on a fantasy world on a fantasy island. Keeping the Japanese flavor isn't really that big a sticking point. Westernizing it will probably make westerners more in tuned with the story.

Hmm, now that you mention it, I suppose you're right. This is a game with knights and Western style wizards, not with ninjas or samurai. I guess that it would be best to translate the honorifics where applicable then.

Haha, Lord Bald! That's pretty funny as Beld is a guy with long red hair. He's far from being bald!
