Yes, I agree entirely as well. I personally would have went with "Yomi", but "Underworld" certainly would fit best in this case since it's very generalized and not just limited to the western notion of "Hell". And it's true that most English speaking players perfer more localized translations. Though I don't really understand why personally, I like to see the original Japanese terms being used. It's a good way to learn about other cultures this way, rather than just always localizing everything, but whatever. To each his own, I suppose...

"Truly, if there is evil in this world, it lies within the heart of mankind."
- Edward D. Morrison (Tales of Phantasia)

I also think localization often detracts from the original intention and I'd rather not make things "player friendly" per se,
but then, Taskforce has a point; most people never bother with readmes and manuals even you stick it on their faces, so lets go with a more generalistic notion while trying to convey the overall idea.

Heh I guess we are different than most; I love reading manuals, charts and cultural notes about games and I have a feeling the rest of the group agrees with me, there is nothing better than knowing what you are getting into and how to work your way around it.

Don't be too saddened by the news, Recca. The word "Yomi" will pop-up in a couple places in the game, just not when dealing with the "Underworld" directly ;)

I tend to prefer them too, but that is assuming Yomi is even the proper term. However, I'm also not a purist and am more than happy to make changes for what I consider the good of the story. I make no apologies for it :) Others are free to release a more literal version if mine isn't sufficient. However, when you've heard "Howdy Stranger!" or "Why are you in my house!" for the tenth time, it is time to get more creative with dialog :)

Just to give readers a heads-up, we ran into another snag (another short untranslated block that I just got back from the saint known as Shiva), but now things are looking up! I need to continue my edits of the last few scenarios and then I'll be ready to send things over to WB for his run-through.

Well, I continued getting a couple hours of text work in today, and things are getting close. I still probably won't have unlocked the last scenario by the time I am ready to send things back to WB, but I'll work on it after he has started his play-through. Also, there are a couple of rogue strings here and there that the translators (not Shiva) missed over the years. I'll probably end up posting them here on the forums tomorrow ;)

Man I love working with this script! It's full of subtle comedy... Too bad my wife won't leave me alone long enough to get it all done! :D

Don't feel lonely Draken buddy. I'm not progressing nearly as far on Minerva as I'd like. Which has delayed the intro movie. Just bear with us guys. Seems to always be something to sidetrack me right after I'm ready to roll LOL.
